I Wanna Be in the Room Where It Happens - Shows I'd Love to Direct, Design, or Choreograph!

Image
As we all know, I am very big into musical theater! As an actor, I think we have a rather limited viewpoint as to what goes on in the creation of a production. This is the main reason why I would absolutely love  to actually direct or choreograph a musical myself! Through my years as an actor and theater enjoyer, there have been quite a few shows that have popped up that I've thought, "Wow, I have so many ideas for that one!" These are those shows! Legally Blonde Legally. Blonde.  This show is perhaps one of my favorites. I have designed sets  for this musical and choreographed unused dances for a few of the songs. I think Legally Blonde  has so many possibilities when it comes to directing and choreographing. "Bend and Snap" just as a song has been choreographed in quite a few different ways, and it's the flipping Bend and Snap. Matilda Matilda  as a story is so fascinating, and I'm in awe and in love with what was done to turn it into a musical. With

How to Make Your Theater Quick Changes Not a Rip-Off!

Image
When you hear the words "quick change," what comes to mind? Perhaps Elsa's magical ice dress  or maybe Lea Kyle's act on "AGT."  Have you ever wondered how you could perform one of these spectacular feats yourself? In this post, I will be discussing some surefire ways to impress audiences everywhere with your fabulously fast costume changes. Offstage Quick Changes     In many shows, the costume changes occur offstage, typically to indicate either a different character or the passing of time. In most cases, these changes happen with only minutes to spare, so every little trick helps.              Trick 1: Velcro Sewing or sticking Velcro into button up shirts drastically reduces the time it takes to remove them. Instead of messing with all those finnicky buttons, you can simply rip the Velcro apart and you're good to go!              Trick 2: Layering   Perhaps the simplest idea on here is layering your garments. Have to change from one three-pie

Getting Upset - Designs for My Play!

Image
As I said in my previous post, I am writing a full length play entitled "The Single-Multi-Story Extravapalooza - Dis-Knee Edition." In that post, I briefly touched on the designs I have come up with, including the set and costumes, but I felt it would be fun to delve deeper into them! The Set In this play, my thoughts and ideas for the set came in waves. I designed the main structure using PowerPoint because its functionality greatly outweighs that of other presentation design software. The basic structure is a two story "background" section and a middle area that sits further downstage than the rest. The Upstage Section So this area is just two of the same set on either side. There are two steps leading up to a lower platform, which is where some scenes, entrances, exits, etc. take place. To cover the back of the stage so people can walk freely, black curtains hang behind the platform, blocking actors from view. A second story is held up by poles of some sort. T

On the Write Track? My Play Writing Process!

Image
As some of you may know, I am, in fact, writing a full-length play. This is what I've gone through! The Concept This play is basically a combination of a good number of Disney films. From Snow White to Encanto. Of course, every character is spoofed, all the names are changed slightly, but it's all for fun! The entire play is led by two narrators, one: a bubbly excited storyteller, the other: a moody, annoyed teller. With bumps, curves, and a bunch of laughs, this show is really fun for everyone! The Beginning I started writing this show in March of 2022 just as a fun little project to pass my time. I honestly thought I'd get bored and tired of it, like I do with a lot of other projects. This one, however, stuck with me. Being a comedy, I was able to have a lot more fun with the concept and actual writing of the script. When I first drafted the character list , I came up with over one-hundred characters ranging from Cindy-Ella to Ugly Monster to Mary Poppin' to Alicia

Divorced, Beheaded, LOVED! My Review of "Six the Musical" on Broadway!

Image
If you're any sort of Broadway or West End theatre fan you've likely heard of a little show called Six the Musical . I had the pleasure of seeing this beloved musical on Broadway, and it was spectacular . Six Her-Story Six the Musical , the brainchild of Lucy Moss and Toby Marlow, premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017 . Originally starting as a college production, Six became world-renowned. The West End show traveled across the pond to Broadway and Australia, with the Broadway cast’s opening night being cancelled due to our bestie, COVID-19. However, the Queens of New York had their opening on October 3. The original cast featured Adrianna Hicks, Andrea Macaset, Abby Mueller, Brittney Mack, Samantha Pauly, and Anna Uzele. The Queens From My Performance Mallory Maedke as Catherine of Aragon - Mallory Maedke is a real-life queen. This star of an actress went on as Jane Seymour for the coveted Tony Awards. With only twelve hours notice . As Aragon, Maedke blew
